The tithe is holy and belongs to God. The tithe is the first tenth of all our increase. The act of tithing is the recognition and worship of the One who created and owns all. Obedience in financial stewardship reveals a maturity of character that God treasures. We honor Him with our obedience and willingness to surrender the portion he asks us to. Our trust and faith in God to meet our needs gives Him opportunities to bless us.
Malachi 3:1010 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. (NIV)
Leviticus 27:3030“‘A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD. (NIV)
Matthew 23:23 23“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. (NIV)
2nd Corinthians 9:6-9 6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
